The rear door electronic latch had failed so there was no return on locking the door. Although it sounded like it was locking, it didn't because the electronic feedback loop was faulty. I found that a pair of flat tipped long nose pliers inserted perpendicular to the opening hole then having the jaws spread open did the trick without the twisting motion that burrs the opening hole. If your second fob works OK, try starting the car with both keys inside the car and then turning engine off and see if that awakens the duff fob up. No 2nd tone when you press a button then its not receiving the signal from the fob. If you do get the 2nd tone, switch the ignition on and off again.
